Bookcase made from Antique Shutters
I am loving the look of this bookcase- nice clean Simply White in contrast to the stained antique cypress. I can also envision two bookcases with a shutter console in between to be used as an entertainment center. The options are endless.

View of our "Saltaire" Daybed Swing
You can see another use for the shutters - our daybed swings. This one is going to a nearby home in Orange Beach, AL. The chippyness {is that a word?} is fab ;) Many hours will be enjoyed viewing the water, maybe even a few naps!

Just some of the shutters we have to chose from. What can we build for you?
If you have been to our store, you will see our entire back wall is displayed with our shutters for you to choose from. We think it adds a nice architectural touch. Many clients stand and dream up possibilities for their home. The hardest part is to decide which project to begin first!

Night Stands

These two pieces were commissioned for another Orange Beach Gal. The nightstand on the left features a salvaged pedestal and a custom cypress top. The chest on the right was finished using CeCe Caldwell's Alaskan Tundra Green then waxed. The glass knobs {which we carry for only $5} were the icing on the cake!

Our "X" Console
This console was born from inspiration from a client who wanted something special for her sofa table. Her room only allotted for specific dimensions and she needed storage space.

Just some of our pretties!
I have included this pic just because. As you know my husband is the Artist behind the furniture and paint finishes. My specialty is fabric and home decor. The dishes are a mixture of pieces we carry in the store, burlap for the "napkin" and I picked the napkin ring from a great estate sale! And what is that tiny bit of box pleated ruffle in the background you might ask? Well, it is one of my custom runners I create. I am sold out at the moment, so I will get busy creating more next week. Might be a great idea for a tutorial.....

Thank you for following along and please subscribe and share our blog with your friends.

Saltaire Shutter Bed

Custom Orders

As you would expect, we receive a lot of custom orders. A lot. So, when a Client/Customer has specifics requests, we do everything in our power to make it a reality. As noted in my post yesterday, Dwayne has been working on a Custom King Size Bed make entirely from Shutters and Salvaged Spindles.

Take note- this bed is not in its completed stage. It still has a few more steps to the finishing process which will create the effect of shutters that have washed ashore.  Dwayne used a combination of CeCe Caldwell's Simply White, Pittsburgh Grey and Seattle Mist to achieve this look. He also added dark pigment to the Wax. If this is in its raw state, can you imagine the final look complete with fine linens?
Enjoy!
Ahhh...

Kindergarten Field Trip

The Zoo

Today was fun! It was Kindergarten's Annual field trip to our local zoo and nature center. The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo and the Alabama Gulf State Park Nature Center are located in our back yard, so to speak. The zoo is smaller in nature and allows children the opportunity to explore the zoo at their own pace and not be overwhelmed. One of our favorite parts is the hands-on Animal Encounters and Daily Educational Exhibit. Did I also mention you will find beautiful peacocks, ducks and rabbits roaming free? It's fabulous! While the Zoo offers an exploration of exotic animals, the Nature Center allows a deeper understanding of our native animals and vegetation around Orange Beach and Gulf Shores. The children were allowed an up-close view of these animals: a Bearded Dragon, Macaw, Ferret, Rainbow Boa, Serval, Red Rat Snake, American Alligator, and an Owl. Needless to say, the kids had a blast!

After the field trip, it's back to work for me. I enjoyed a wonderfully relaxed conversation with a follower of our Facebook page. She stopped in (for the 1st time) to view our store and ended up staying for a while and savoring a cup of coffee.

History Lesson - As Dwayne and I envisioned the cafe area for the store, we wanted a relaxed atmosphere that promotes good conversation. So we set up a beverage station, Kuerig and comfy bar stools, surrounded by Antique Cypress, Reclaimed Shutters and a Barn Door salvaged from a dairy farm. Please come by anytime you are in the area - we want to get to know you!

To my surprise this evening, I walk into the back workshop and I was taken back by the beautiful bed Dwayne and the guys made today. It is a King Size bed comprised of our Salvaged Shutters. This particular bed was designed by one of our customers, but I may have to have one myself. Love it!! I'm so excited to show y'all so I'll post a few pics later;)

Introductions Please

Intro

Let me begin by introducing ourselves. I'm Rhea and my husband is Dwayne and we have two girls AC and LG. Most think they are twins but they are just very close - 9 1/2 months apart!  I have an obsession with fabrics and decorating and could look at fabric samples for hours. Dwayne is fascinated by reclaimed woods and salvaged items and is also the artist behind our painted furniture. He fits in deep sea fishing when there is time ;)

Over the past couple of weeks we have been humbled by the outpouring of support from our community and friends, old and new.

Ribbon Cutting

Wow - it has been a busy 2 weeks!  We kicked off our Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting with our family, friends and chamber members. A great time was had by all!

Blessed with a great turnout, (giving away a 125 Qt. Yeti didn't hurt, either!) we sold our "Saltaire" Swing within 30 minutes of opening. Since then, we have had many custom orders for our swings, some small in nature others large. Customers really like the idea of having their swing made to their specifications. They are compromised of reclaimed shutters and Antique Cypress, which we mill ourselves.

Back to the Yeti- many guys and gals were anticipating their name being called. But only one could win - Look at their excitement!

Please stay with us as we continue our journey doing what we love. With that being said, I will leave you with this quote ~
"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle."  Steve Jobs
